DAY  5 РSLEEP IS A MUST

It is our last day of the 5 Days to Awesome Natural Immunity. I’ve saved the best until last – sleep. Without good quality sleep we are just a cold and flu disaster waiting to happen.

Everything else we have done this week; hydration, nutrition, stress management and exercise, all play their part in supporting good quality sleep.

Sleep has two main components – deep sleep and REM sleep. Deep sleep is used by the body to repair and regrow tissue, build bone and muscle, and clean up your immune system. REM sleep is used by the body to clear out neurotoxins, consolidate information received throught the day and repair neural pathways.

Continuously having poor sleep will mean that you have less sleep cycles of deep sleep and REM sleep. Less sleep cycles means reduced repair of the immune system, among other problems. Bottom line is that you must do everything in your power to increase the amount and quality of your sleep.

THESE ARE THE SLEEP ESSENTIALS

* create a sleep routine – our bodies need consistency and routines to anticipate requirements for processes such as sleep and digestion. A lack of consistency in meal or sleep times, for example, will usually result in poor digestion and insomnia.
* create an environment conducive to sleep
* ensure you have sufficiently relaxed…and not with alcohol
